Chicken and women are everyday sights that make for a delightful experience. They are so plentiful and common in daily routines that sometimes their value is taken for granted. However they do occur with a pleasant impact for example the effect of fried chicken on hungry children. No kids’ party is complete without spaghetti and the crunchy golden brown plump drumstick. Same with women who cross your path to leave an invigorating touch to the senses. They make the day suddenly brighten up. Butterflies in the stomach start fluttering as you take a sneak peek at those smooth shapely legs.
In the United States chicken is like the ordinary thing which is so affordable and bountiful to be a humdrum on the dining table. Not chicken again is a standard lament in many households and every homemaker gets hard pressed to try new recipes. If you have American guests for supper don’t include a chicken dish if you don’t want their faces to drop furtively. It’s practically coming out of their ears. I resided in the U.S. in the 80’s and at Rice supermarket, chicken quarters went on sale for 29 cents a pound. They followed me to the Orient when Erap’s crony started importing them by the container load and started selling them in his chain of Puregold supermarkets for 75 cents per pound. Drat, guy had to stop when the local chicken industry raised a hue and cry. For a while, poor Filipino folks found chicken more affordable than the usual dried fish.

Chickens are fun to watch in the farm. They really make you feel cheerful. The feathers are so smooth to the touch and the colors are so attractive. Even while still live and kicking the fat hens can make you drool and imagine them fully cooked according to your favorite recipe. It’s like undressing a woman with your eyes. You get goose bumps imagining her in your arms while the two of you get tangled up in bed and you can feel her curves up so close to touch, caress, and pin between your legs. You keep rubbing that hard lump on her buns but when it’s time to go it suddenly dissipates leaving you so embarrassed. Then no matter how you strangle it tightly it won’t wake up and harden again while the lady ho hums and starts to look at the ceiling as if the lizard had climbed up there.

The tastiest chicken barbecue in the Philippines is called the Inasal from the Ilongo provinces in the Visayas Islands. In fact it has invaded Manila with a proliferation of restaurant chains featuring the fetchingly aromatic and succulent style. I first savored it when I visited Iloilo City many years ago. They have a strip by the sea called Villa Beach where roadside stands and full service resorts sell the delectable delicacy char broiled the native way. Inasal chicken on a stick matches well with the fresh oysters and the Lechon which the place is also famous for. They use yearlings for the whole pig roast over hot coals resulting in ultra crispy reddish brown skin and tender juicy layers of fleshy morsels.
I doubt if the Westerners would go for steamed chicken like the Hainanese variety found in Singaporean street food stalls and the cold cuts standard bearer in the Cantonese cuisine oasis of Hongkong. The Americans love their chicken browned not pale and soft. I overheard a Texan remark to a waitress in a Chinese restaurant on Westheimer Road in the Galleria district of Houston when served a plate of the gelatinous white slices that back home in Bluebell they cook the chicken before eating them. The Jews in New York would easily adapt to pale faced chicken as they treat chicken soup as comfort food to remind them of Grandma. They should come to the Philippines and try our native chicken tinola which is made more healthful by brewing the broth in lots of ginger and slices of green papaya.

How are chickens saved? Do they just go through this life to lay eggs then be slaughtered for food? They are so nice to see and have around they deserve something more as fulfillment. Truth is chickens were born to find unity with you when you eat them. Same with the woman, when you make love to a woman regardless of style, prelims, or ritual a bonding ensues that goes beyond the physical injection with amino acids as in the case of the chicken. Same with expiration from life on this earth because when dust turns to dust you become part and are restored in the ranks of leptons and quarks that are the principal essence of everything that evolves to matter and life forms. What makes you retain your consciousness is faith because instead of reforming and scattering in the endless stretches of the universal frontier, your spirit particles stay glued because of love, faith and hope. And the Beginner of all welcomes you to His dominion to exist with Him and keep Him company in eternity after passing the short processing through the initiation and trial on the blue planet. Unbelievable? Go ahead be like chickens with no heads or wait for a woman to give you one.
